The Examined Life: Intro to Philosophy
Course Description
This course explores the relevance of philosophy in everyday life through the study of fundamental questions such as: What is reality? How do we know what we know? How should we live? What is beauty? What role should the government play? How do race, gender, class, and other social categories shape identity? Students engage with both historical and contemporary philosophical ideas to develop their own perspectives on these questions and to understand how philosophical inquiry can inform their lives, communities, and the broader world.
